Creative Baby Announcement: Painting Party with Friends

Planning a pregnancy announcement for my friends that matched our creative energy was incredibly important to me. I wanted my friends to feel like they were joining me in celebration, sharing in the joy from the very beginning.

I envisioned a girls' night filled with plenty of snacks, creativity, and laughter. Once I knew I wanted a fun and artful evening, I was ready to start planning. Down to the supplies we bought, here is how I pulled the ultimate surprise pregnancy announcement on my friends with a baby onesie painting party.

Step One: Recruit a 'Mole'

Planning a party can be stressful, so don't go it alone. I quickly learned that the first trimester is exhausting. Having someone you trust to support you is invaluable for two reasons: pregnancy brings a wave of emotions, and staying connected to uplifting people helps keep your spirits high. Plus, bouncing ideas off someone else is a huge relief. My 'mole'—a trusted friend—was essential in this process.

Step Two: Create a Plan

We used the Instagram color trend where each girlfriend brings snacks all in one color. This trend was the perfect cover. My friend, the mole, reached out to our friends, suggesting a party on her patio, and I proposed the fun color trend we had been talking about for a while. Once everyone picked their color and we set a date, the plan was in motion.

Step Three: Choose the Activity

The reveal was the trickiest part. After many discussions, my friend and I decided on painting baby onesies. A painting night was the perfect choice for us: we all love getting crafty. Plus, the supplies were pretty affordable!

The Baby Announcement Painting Party

When everyone arrived, we caught up over a few drinks. Then, each person grabbed an art easel and a bandana and took a seat. To add to the excitement, we decided to capture everyone’s reactions on video for Instagram – since the whole party was themed around a video trend, this was an easy sell. We asked our friends to pick a bandana matching their snack tray to keep them from suspecting the real theme.

With blindfolds on, I set out the onesies and sat at the head of the table. The video of their reactions was priceless—no one saw it coming!

Painting the Onesies

Painting onesies turned out to be a relaxed, laid-back activity. We spent the evening chatting and enjoying each other's company. We even popped some champagne (for my friends). It was a perfect, joyous occasion.

Party Shopping List

Plastic Table Cloths: We found some at the 99 Cent store, but any dollar store or Amazon has great options with cute designs.

Fun Shaped Balloons: Available at party stores and on Amazon.

Decorations: My friend cleverly disguised toys as decor. She bought a set that covered two tables.

Art Easels: I bought a 12-piece set from Amazon.

Onesies: Amazon or any store that sells baby clothes. I recommend the 3-6 month size so your baby can actually wear them.

Paint: It’s important to choose non-toxic fabric paints suitable for newborns.

Paint Brushes: Here are the ones we used.

Palettes: I ended up forgetting these at home so we used plastic plates. But these palettes are nice to have around and I have used them for other projects.

Making the Most of Pregnancy

Taking an active role in celebrating my pregnancy has helped me feel grounded and in control, allowing me to stay connected to my true self. Emotional and physical challenges can easily become overwhelming. By intentionally making space to celebrate, have fun, and prioritize my body and baby boy, I have found it easier to overcome anxiety, depression, and hardship.

I'm so happy I chose to have a pregnancy reveal party with my friends. They lifted me up and made the event special. With my friend, the 'mole', by my side, we created a party that truly reflected who I am: a crafty, artsy, and colorful girl living in Nevada.
